God's Love Grows Here!

Youth

Youth United
“Youth United” is the name given to the program that brings together all of the youth, ages 6th through 12th grade, from all of the  Methodist churches in Appomattox County.  Teens are also encouraged to bring their friends.  The churches pool their resources to employ a part-time youth leader.  Junior high youth (grades 6-8) meet at the church on Sundays from 5:00-6:30 pm; senior high youth (grades 9-12) meet from 6:00-7:30 pm, enjoying a meal together from 6-6:30 provided by various parents and church groups.  Cindi Williams, the youth leader, develops disciples among the youth through Bible study, topical discussions, games, mission projects, recreational road trips, and participation in our district and conference programs.

Youth Sunday School
Youth Sunday School classes from are held from 10-10:40 a.m. on Sundays.  Jack leads the junior high youth (grades 7-9) and Justin leads the senior high youth (grades 10-12).

Acolyte
Youth can participate in worship services by being an acolyte.  An acolyte is an attendant who wears a special robe and necklace and one who lights and extinguishes the altar candles. The lighting of the altar candles in the worship service symbolizes bringing the Light of Christ into the worship service.  Before the extinguishing of the last altar candles, the acolyte relights his/her candle lighter and then processes out into the narthex, symbolizing taking the Light of Christ out into the world. Interested youth are trained and supervised in the proper handling of this special responsibility.

VBS
The youth play vital roles in assisting with Vacation Bible School each summer.  They help with music, games, crafts, snacks, photography, technology, and leading small groups.
