God's Love Grows Here!

World

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes
We support Samaritan’s Purse by filling shoeboxes with gifts for children.  The boxes, which also contain a Christian message, are distributed around the world.  For more information, go to www.samaritanspurse.org/occ/.

Gleaning for the World
“Gleaning For The World seeks to provide urgently needed and life-saving support to communities in critical need throughout the world through the responsible application of a powerful concept that we call “gleaning.” By gleaning we mean that, from a host of generous corporate donors, we collect surplus medical and other essential supplies which we then, are able to distribute where humanitarian help is needed worldwide.”  We support GFTW by going to their facility on a regular basis to sort through donations or assist as needed.  We have active groups from the United Methodist Men and United Methodist Women that support this ministry.  For more information, go to www.gftw.org.

Spring and Winter Bazaars
Twice a year the Missions Committee sponsors a Spring and Winter Bazaar that includes crafters, artisans, independent consultants, food trucks, bake sale, raffle, and more every May and November to benefit a special project chosen by the Missions Committee. For information on becoming a vendor please contact Tania Shepherd at 434-989-8547 or taniashepherd27@gmail.com.

Kits for Conference
Each year before the Virginia Annual Conference (United Methodist Church), volunteers create “kits” according to missional needs.  Various “kits” include school kits, health kits, baby kits, sewing kits, and clean-up buckets.  For more information, go to www.vaumc.org.

Christmas Cards for the Troops
Each Christmas season, people are encouraged to prepare Christmas cards that are sent to our military troops overseas.  This is an important ministry to let our soldiers know that we love them, appreciate them and are praying for them.

UMCOR
“The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe.  UMCOR’s work reaches people in more than 80 countries, including the United States.  We provide humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disaster disrupt life to such an extent that communities are unable to recover on their own.  UMCOR is a ministry of The United Methodist Church, and our goal is to assist the most vulnerable persons affected by crisis or chronic need without regard to their race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. We believe all people have God-given worth and dignity.”  The people at MUMC support UMCOR with financial donations throughout the year, especially after natural disasters and crises.  For more information, go to www.umcor.org.
